Stock futures for Canada's main index gained on Thursday, supported by higher gold prices.

U.S. stock futures pointed to sharp losses on Thursday after a massive rally the day before.
Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average withered 307 points, or 1.3%, to 22,591
Futures for the S&P 500 slipped 31.75 points, or 1.3%, to 2,439.25,
NASDAQ futures dropped 82 points, or 1.3%, to 6,203.50.
That follows the posting on Wednesday of the Dow’s largest single-day point gain in history, jumping 1,086.25 points, or 5% to close at 22,878.45. The day’s gain also marked the biggest upside move on a percentage basis for the Dow since March 23, 2009, when it rose 5.8 percentage points.
The S&P 500 also catapulted 5% — its best day since March 2009 — to finish the trading day at 2,467.70. The NASDAQ also had its best day since March 23, 2009, soaring 5.8% to close at 6,554.36.
JD.com is launching an extensive revamp of its operations, according to The Wall Street Journal. The paper said the Chinese internet company is planning to split its primary unit – JD Mall — into three business departments, citing an internal document.
JPMorgan will pay $135 million to settle claims that it improperly handled transactions involving foreign company shares. The alleged mishandling of American Depositary Receipts occurred between 2011 and early 2015, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Apple supplier Foxconn may start making higher end iPhones in a plant in India in 2019. It would be the first time Foxconn has made iPhones in India.
Overseas, in Japan, the Nikkei 225 rocketed 3.9%, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index dipped 0.7%
Oil prices lost 58 cents to $45.64 U.S. a barrel.
Gold prices took on $4.70 to $1,265.50 U.S. an ounce.
