Futures Flat as Oil Peaks

Ecobalt, Corus in Focus

Stock futures for Canada's main stock index were little changed on Tuesday after kicking off the second quarter on an upbeat note in the previous session.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index spiked 125.97 points to end Monday’s session at 16,228.06

The Canadian dollar docked 0.02 cents to 75.10 cents U.S. early Tuesday

June futures nicked up 0.03% Tuesday.

Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz expressed guarded optimism on Monday that the country would emerge from a soft patch, but maintained a cautious tone overall, saying the economic outlook still warrants an interest rate below the neutral range.

Australian cobalt developer Jervois Mining on Tuesday said it would buy out Canada-based Ecobalt Solutions, for $57.6 million, to expand its geographical footprint into the United States.

RBC raised the target price on Corus Entertainment to $7.50 from $7.00

Canaccord Genuity cut the target price on Roots Corp. to C$5 from C$6

The TSX Venture Exchange eased 0.7 points Monday to 626.19

U.S. stock futures were little changed on Tuesday as investors digested a strong rally from the previous session.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average inched ahead six points at 26,264

Futures for the S&P 500 picked up 2.5 points, or 0.1%, at 2,873

NASDAQ futures edged up 10.5 points, or 0.1%, to 7,509

A sharp decline in Walgreens Boots Alliance also kept stock futures in check. Shares of the Dow member fell 8% in the pre-market on weaker-than-expected earnings. Walgreens also lowered its earnings forecast for 2019.

The U.S. durable goods report is due to be released Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Overseas, in Japan, the Nikkei 225 dished off more than three points Tuesday, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index sailed higher 0.2%

Oil prices gained 30 cents to $61.89 U.S. a barrel.

Gold prices faded 40 cents to $1,293.80 U.S. an ounce.
