Stock futures for Canada's main stock index were little changed on Wednesday as investors sought more clarity on whether the United States and China could make headway on their trade talks.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average zoomed 124 points, or 0.5%, at 26,277
Futures for the S&P 500 took on 16.25 points, or 0.6%, at 2,883.25
NASDAQ futures hiked 47.5 points, or 0.6%, to 7,566.75
Caterpillar shares fell 0.6% after Deutsche Bank downgraded the industrial giant to hold from buy and slashed its 12-month price target. The bank cited a "collapse" in synchronized global growth.
In terms of data, weekly mortgage applications, private payrolls, the services Purchasing Managers Index, and Institute for Supply Management's non-manufacturing index are due to be released throughout the morning.
American and Chinese officials are reportedly closing in on a trade deal, having resolved most of the outstanding issues in their protracted trade dispute. Both countries have levied tariffs on billions of dollars' worth of each other's goods since last year.
According to the Financial Times, Beijing wants Washington to remove existing U.S. duties on Chinese imports, while the Trump administration wants China to agree to enforcement measures that ensure the country sticks to the deal.
Overseas, in Japan, the Nikkei 225 hiked 1% Wednesday, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index gained 1.2%
Oil prices eked ahead four cents to $62.62 U.S. a barrel.
Gold prices advanced $1.90 to $1,297.30 U.S. an ounce.
