12:09 PM EST - Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. : slipped into a third-quarter loss on the cost effects of a stronger Canadian dollar, higher production expenses and weaker sales. Abitibi said it had a net loss of $48 million, or 11 cents a share, in the quarter. That compared with a net profit of $99 million, or 23 cents a share, in the year earlier period. Analysts had been looking for Abitibi to lose 6 cents a share, before items, in the latest third quarter. Abitibi-Consolidated Inc.
