04:33 PM EST - The North West Company Fund : has rung up a 41 percent rise in first-quarter profit to $15.2 million as sales increased 35 percent to $315.5 million, boosted by new stores and the acquisition of Caribbean and South Pacific island retailer Cost-U-Less. Earnings were worth 32 cents per unit in the seasonally slow quarter ended April 30, up from $10.8 million or 23 cents per unit in the year-earlier period, when sales were $234.4 million. The North West Company Fund units T.NWF.UN are trading off 22 cents at $17.90.
