09:45 AM EST - Torstar Corp. : reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $211.2 million or $2.68 per share, compared to net income of $47.2 million or $0.60 per share in the year ago quarter. Losses from associated businesses and investment writedown and loss were $229.5 million or $2.91 per share net of tax in the fourth quarter of 2008. Excluding items, Torstar had net income of $18.3 million or $0.23 per share in the fourth quarter of 2008. Operating revenue for the quarter was $412.8 million, up from $402.9 million in the fourth quarter of 2007. Torstar's pension expense in 2009 is expected to be $33.1 million, up $20.3 million from $12.8 million in 2008. Due to the timing of actuarial valuations for the most significant group of Torstar's pension plans, an increase in pension funding is not anticipated until 2010. Torstar Corp.
