10:51 AM EST - Brookfield Asset Management Inc. : posted a surge in fourth-quarter profit on Friday, bolstered by growth in most of its operations and realization gains reflecting appreciation in the value of its underlying operations. Brookfield, an asset manager with interests in the real estate and power generation sectors, said net income for the quarter ended December 31 rose to $611 million, or $1.51 per share, from $151 million, or 36 cents per share, in the same quarter last year.
