09:43 AM EST - Empire Industries Ltd. : said its second-quarter net loss from operations widened to $2.2 million from $300,000 a year ago. Loss per share from operations for the latest quarter were $0.02, wider than nil in the prior year. Revenue for the second quarter slipped 34.7% to $28.6 million from $43.7 million in the last year, due to reductions from both the engineered products and steel fabrication groups. Despite a $1.3-million reduction in OG&A expenses in the second quarter, the company said it incurred an operating loss of $3.8 million for the quarter compared with an income of $100,000 in the 2008 period.
