09:41 AM EST - Loblaw Companies : announced that its third-quarter net earnings increased 20.4% to $189 million from $157 million in the third quarter of 2008. Basic net earnings per common share for the third quarter increased by $0.12, or 21.1%, to $0.69 from $0.57 in the third quarter of 2008. Operating income was $378 million for the third quarter of 2009 compared to $312 million in the same period in 2008, an increase of 21.2%. Sales for the third quarter decreased by 0.2% to $9.473 billion from $9.493 billion in the third quarter of 2008. Same-store sales declined by 0.6%. Loblaw Companies
