10:03 AM EST - Yamana Gold Inc. : plans to buy Northern Orion Resources Inc. for about $1.02 billion, said the companies, which have offered about $3 billion to buy Meridian Gold Inc. Yamana and Northern said that if they cannot reach a deal with Meridian within 30 days, they will launch a joint tender offer aimed at acquiring 100 percent of its outstanding shares. shares T.YRI are trading off 85 cents at $12.17.
