The evidence for rapid climate change is quite compelling and includes: rising global temperatures, warming oceans, shrinking ice sheets, rising sea levels, declining Arctic sea ice, retreating glaciers and decreasing snow cover.

In fact, according to reports by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, global climate change is a growing threat to society.

"To many of us, climate change seems very far away," explains Rankin.

"The changes in temperature are easily ignored, while fluctuations allow us to believe that things are not as bad as we are told. But we don't have the luxury of continuing to ignore the environmental impact of our economies and current way of life."

To document this impending global catastrophe, well-known filmmaker Joyce Ferder Rankin will travel to the most remote place on earth, Western Antarctica, to shoot the documentary, Degrees to Extinction.

Rankin and her team will begin a 32-day expedition in February 2017, traveling to remote regions in Western Antarctica. The team plans to document the Great Melt, which is estimated to ultimately raise sea levels by more than 30 feet. Live reports on the scene will be broadcast to demonstrate the enormity of the issue at hand, bringing first-hand footage directly to viewers.

"Degrees to Extinction will showcase the difficult truth that we all must face - and how drastic actions must be taken when confronted with the deadly consequences of the climate crisis," she says. "We are going to the ends of the earth, places where humans rarely go, in order to bring back the truth of what is happening to our planet and the catastrophic disaster we will face if we do not act immediately."

To help pay for travel to Antarctica, camera equipment, expert interviews, shooting, cold-weather gear, post-production costs and marketing, Rankin launched a fundraiser on Indiegogo. There, she hopes to raise $325,000 through crowdfunding.
