Gold futures traded little changed on Friday, with traders pausing after the previous session saw the precious metal climb nearly $25 an ounce.
Gold for December delivery slipped $1.50 to $1,308.40 U.S. an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold on Thursday rallied $24.60, or 1.9%, after China reported a surge in overall imports and exports in July.
Investors on Friday also kept an eye on the U.S. dollar , which edged higher against some of its rivals. Strength in the dollar tends to weigh on dollar-denominated commodities as it makes them more expensive for holders of other currencies.
On Friday, September silver gained eight cents to $20.27 U.S. an ounce following Thursday’s leap of 68 cents, or 3.5%.
October platinum rose $3.70 to $1,495.30 U.S. an ounce; it closed Thursday with a gain of $53.30, or 3.7%.
September palladium was up 80 cents to $739.35 U.S. an ounce, extending its 2.1% bounce in the previous session. September copper futures gained three cents to $3.30 U.S. a pound.
