World Markets Rally On U.S. Fed Stimulus

World markets had strong days virtually across the board in Thursday’s trading as news of the U.S. Federal Reserve providing additional stimulus to the economy that met or exceeded estimates.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 closed up 198.80 points, or 2.17%, to 9,358.78.

Japanese traders returned after taking Wednesday off for a holiday and stocks rallied despite the yen holding near recent highs.

Casio Computer Co reported a net profit of 2.56 billion yen as compared to the same quarter in 2009 which yielded a net loss. Shares increased by 2.2% to 570 yen.

After raising net income estimates, shares of Tokyo Electon saw its shares climb 3.1% to 4,670 yen.

Shares or carmakers Honda Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Company made strong moves on Thursday as well; gaining 1.5% and 2.3% respectively.

Shares of Sumitomo Metal Mining gained 1.40% to 1,300 yen.

China’s stocks also rallied on the U.S. Fed news, especially the Hang Seng market as Hong Kong is often viewed as the gateway to investing in China.

The Shanghai Composite closed up 55.95 points, or 1.85%, to 3,086.94.

Retailers were a leader in gainers today. Shares of Shanghai Bailian rose by 9.1% while Shanghai Friendship hit the daily limit of 10% after resuming trading on four-month suspension.

Resource stocks also had a strong day. China Shenhua Energy Co. increased 1% and PetroChina increased 3.7% to 11.88 yen.

The Hang Seng rose; climbing 390.96 points to close at 24,535.63.

IPO, Evergreen International Holdings Ltd, ran up as much as 37% in Hong Kong trading on its inaugural day of trading. The menswear maker closed at HK$5.80 or up 26% from its initial offer price with 147 million shares changed hands.

Elsewhere, the smaller markets were mostly up on Thursday.

South Korea's Kospi increased by 6.53% to 1,942.50.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 closed up by .481% to 4,745.300.

India's Sensex closed up by 2.09%.

Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur Composite Index moved ahead by 4.14 points to 1,511.74.

Indonesia's Jakarta Composite Index increased by 23.37 points.

Shenzhen Composite closed green; up 2.016% to 1,397.702.

Taiwan's Taiex gained 63.95 points.

Singapore's Straits Times Index closed up by .48%.

New Zealand's NZX 50 fell by .20%.

Philippine shares were up by .352%.

Shares in Thailand closed up by 1.717%.
