At the annual Consumer Electronics Show, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) revealed a number of new artificial intelligence (A.I.) microchips and processors.
AMD Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lisa Su unveiled a new addition to the company’s Instinct MI400 data centre A.I. hardware series called the MI440X that has eight graphics processing units (GPUs).
The company also announced its latest line-up of computer processors for consumers and enterprises called the Ryzen AI 400 Series and the Ryzen AI PRO 400 Series.
Computers with the AI 400 and AI PRO 400 chips will be available from leading personal computer (PC) makers such as Dell Technologies (DELL) and HP (HPQ), said Su.
AMD also announced what it called its fastest gaming processor ever with the new Ryzen 7 9850X3D chip.
The new Ryzen processor can reach up to 5.6 gigahertz in chip clock speed and has eight high performance chip cores, noted Su.
Last autumn, AMD announced a long-term deal to become a key supplier for privately held OpenAI’s buildout of its A.I. infrastructure, necessitating the need for new chips and processors.
AMD stock has gained 70% over the last 12 months to trade at $221.08 U.S. per share.
