Gold futures picked up steam on Friday, trading a little over a dollar away from their record high set early November.
Gold for February delivery rose $19.50, or 1.4%, to $1408.70 U.S. an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Gold settled at a record $1,410.10 U.S. an ounce on Nov. 9. The metal earlier Friday traded as high as $1,409.80 U.S. an ounce.
