U.S. crude futures briefly extended gains and rose more than $1 U.S. on Wednesday in choppy trading after a government oil inventory report showed crude stocks rose last week, though less than expected.
Crude stocks fell 927,000 barrels at the Cushing, Oklahoma, delivery hub for the benchmark U.S. light sweet crude, the U.S. Energy Information Administration's report said, and that may have provided a bullish signal. But the report showed builds in gasoline and distillate stocks.
