Gold hits $1,059.10 an ounce

Gold futures rose on Tuesday, as upbeat U.S. earnings further fueled risk-taking and pressured the dollar to another 14-month low against the euro, lifting the appeal of gold as an alternative.

Gold for December delivery, the most actively traded contract, rose 90 cents, or 0.1%, to $1,059.10 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The October contract rose $1.70 to $1,059 an ounce.

''Gold continues to gradually eke out gains and consolidate at near record levels on continuing oil strength and dollar weakness,'' said Daniel Stokes, analyst at GoldCore, in a note. ''Buying of physical remains robust on all price dips and this bodes well for further record highs in the short term.''
