Gold futures wavered on Friday, but were on track for a weekly gain after U.S. Federal Reserve Vice Chairwoman Janet Yellen voiced support for the central bank’s bond-buying program.
Gold for December delivery slipped 80 cents, or 0.1%, to trade at $1,285.50 U.S. an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Prices jumped 1.4% on Thursday. For the week, they were up around 0.1%.
December silver added less than a half penny to $20.735 U.S. an ounce after gaining 1.3% in the previous session. Prices looked at a loss of 2.8% for the week.
In other metals trading on Comex Friday, January platinum shed $3.30, or 0.2%, to $1,440.80 U.S. an ounce, trading up around 0.1% for the week, while December palladium fell $14.80, or 2%, to $725 U.S. an ounce — looking at a more than 4% drop for the week.
High-grade copper, which closed unchanged on Thursday after hitting a more than three-month low earlier this week on concerns about Chinese economic growth, saw its December contract again trade flat at $3.16 U.S. a pound.
