Gold prices moved between small gains and losses on Friday, with analysts attributing the lack of direction to offsetting currency trends.
The latest reading on U.S. fourth-quarter GDP didn't offer a big surprise, as growth was revised down to 2.4% from 3.2%, matching expectations. Traders continued to monitor the Ukraine crisis, while also waiting for additional U.S. economic reports and more Federal Reserve talk.
Gold for April delivery dipped $1.50, or 0.1%, to $1,330.30 U.S. an ounce. For the month, gold prices are on pace for a 7.2% gain on a nearby-futures basis. March silver was roughly unchanged at $21.31 U.S. an ounce, while May silver was down a penny to $21.34 U.S. an ounce.
Elsewhere in metals trading, April platinum gained $1.80, or 0.1%, $1,455.20 U.S. an ounce, while June palladium rose $3.35, or nearly 0.5%, to $745.60 U.S. an ounce.
High-grade copper for May delivery was up a penny, or 0.4%, at $3.25 U.S. a pound.
