Gasoline prices at the pump are at record highs across Canada.
Natural Resources Canada says the average price across the country for regular gasoline hit
197.4 cents per litre, an all-time high. Prices have risen more that 12 cents from a week ago.
Prices are as high as $2.23 a litre in Vancouver, while in Toronto prices average slightly under
$2 per litre. In Edmonton, the average price at the pump for gasoline is $1.30 a litre.
Gasoline prices have spiked as oil hovers around $100 U.S. per barrel, in part because of
supply disruptions related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The higher prices also come as the re-opening of the economy has led to high demand for
gasoline that refiners are struggling to meet.
