Bitcoin Mining Operation In Alberta Is Shut Down After Neighbours Complain

A Bitcoin mining operation north of Edmonton has been shut down.

A company called Link Global Technologies last year set up four natural-gas powered generators near an upscale estate community in Sturgeon County, Alberta to power a Bitcoin mining operation.

Neighbours who were irritated by the noisy generators running day and night tipped off municipal authorities and say they were never notified of the Vancouver-based company’s plans to mine for the world’s largest cryptocurrency.

Link Global Technologies had been using a dormant natural gas well owned by Calgary-based MAGA Energy to power the generators without permission. Alberta’s provincial utilities commission stepped in to shut down the Bitcoin miners.

However, Link Global Technologies says it plans to go through proper procedures to restart its Bitcoin mining operation in Alberta as soon as possible.
