Microsoft Adds Crypto Wallet To Edge Browser

U.S. technology giant Microsoft (MSFT) is adding a cryptocurrency wallet to its Edge internet browser.

Multiple media reports say that the Seattle-based software company is testing the built-in crypto wallet internally with plans to add it to the Edge browser in coming months.

Screenshots of the cryptocurrency wallet have been leaked online and posted on social media site Twitter, where it has been met with both positive and negative responses.

Critics are attacking Microsoft for adding a crypto wallet to the browser following last year’s steep selloff in digital asset prices that hurt many investors.

Other people have accused Microsoft of trying to capitalize on the rebound in prices for Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies, which have risen more than 50% since the start of this year.

Going forward, Microsoft Edge users will be able to purchase cryptocurrencies from Coinbase and MoonPay through the built-in crypto wallet.

Microsoft’s crypto wallet will also include the ability to connect decentralized apps to the wallet and support the collection and storage of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

In addition to the new crypto wallet, Microsoft has also added buy now, pay later financing options to the Edge browser.

Microsoft’s stock has declined 10% in the past 12 months to $273.78 U.S. per share.
