3 Credit Cards to Consider as Air Travel Demand Heats Up

The COVID-19 pandemic put a massive strain on the travel industry since early 2020. Vaccine rollouts across the developed world in late 2020 and the first half of 2021 have spurred hope for this space. Canadians who are hungry for air travel are seeing new routes open in recent weeks. Today, I want to look at three credit cards that cater specifically to the needs of air travelers. Let’s dive in.

The TD (TSX:TD) Aeroplan VISA Infinite is one of the best targets for air travelers. Once they are approved, card holders will immediately receive 10,000 Aeroplan points. Moreover, they will receive an additional 10,000 points after their first purchase with the card. Card holders can earn 1.5 points for every $1 spent on Air Canada’s (TSX:AC) website, or on groceries and gas.

The card also offers comprehensive travel insurance, including up to $1 million in travel medical. It is one of the best all-around air travel cards on the market.

Air travelers may also be interested in the American Express (NYSE:AXP) Aeroplan Card. This card offers some differences from the TD version. For one, it offers two points for every $1 spent at Air Canada, 1.5 points on delivery and food purchase, and one point on everything else. This card also has travel insurance, including $500,000 in travel accident, flight and baggage delay, and lost or stolen baggage.

CIBC (TSX:CM) Aeroplan VISA Card is the last card air travelers may want to consider in the middle of the summer. This card offers only 1 point for every $1 spent at Air Canada and on other essentials. However, it does offer a $0 annual fee.
