New movie “Jurassic World: Dominion” roared to the top of the box office over the weekend,
earning $390 million U.S. at cinemas worldwide.
The latest instalment in the Jurassic Park film franchise generated more than $143.3 million
U.S. in ticket sales at the domestic North American box office during its debut, and brought in
$245.8 million U.S. internationally, bringing its global tally to nearly $390 million U.S.
Around 10.8 million moviegoers turned up to see “Jurassic World: Dominion” in the U.S. and
Canada, representing around 66% of the overall moviegoing audience during the weekend,
according to industry data.
“Top Gun: Maverick” earned another $50 million U.S. in ticket sales during its third weekend of
release in the U.S. and Canada, representing 26% of the domestic moviegoing audience.
“Top Gun: Maverick” has continued to draw in audiences and saw just a 44% drop in ticket
sales between its second and third weekend. This is the second weekend in a row that the Tom
Cruise film has held strong at the box office.
“Jurassic World: Dominion’s” ticket sales are expected to fall more steeply going forward as the
movie has received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics and audiences compared to
near universal acclaim for the long-awaited sequel to 1986’s Top Gun.
