Less Than Half Of Air Canada Flights Landed On Time This Summer

Less than half of flights scheduled by Air Canada (AC) this summer landed on time, according
to data from aviation analytics company Cirium.

Cirium said that only 43% of Air Canada's flights landed on time during the summer, while 61%
of WestJet Airlines’ flights arrived when scheduled.

Combined, only 49% of more than 153,000 flights flown by Air Canada and WestJet in recent
months landed on time or within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival.

Before the pandemic, 70% of Air Canada flights and 84% of WestJet flights landed on time.

Canada’s airports and carriers struggled this summer with a surge in travel demand and labour
shortages. As a result, Air Canada cut thousands of flights from its schedule in July and August
– an average of 154 flights a day.

In all, Canadian airlines flew nearly 60,000 fewer flights this summer compared to before the
pandemic, but cancellations more than doubled in July and August.

Air Canada, WestJet, Porter Airlines, Flair Airlines and Air Transat cancelled a combined 9,000
flights in the summer months, according to Cirium.

Air Canada’s stock is down 15% this year and trading at $18.90 per share.
