Empire Co. Expands Grocery Delivery Service To Alberta

Empire Co. (EMP.A), the parent company of grocery chains Sobeys and Safeway, is expanding its home delivery service to Alberta.

Going forward, Empire’s Voilà online ordering and home delivery grocery service will be available in Calgary, Edmonton, and those cities surrounding suburbs.

The expansion into Alberta comes after similar growth of Sobeys and Safeway’s e-commerce service in Ontario and Quebec.

Consumers in Alberta will be able to order 20,000 grocery products from Safeway, Sobeys and FreshCo.

The products will be sold at in-store prices and delivered within one hour directly to consumers homes, said Empire. Curbside pick-up will also be available.

Customers in Alberta will be able to order online on the Voilà website or using its mobile app beginning on June 26.

Empire Co’s stock has declined 15% in the past year to trade at $34.47 per share.
