AstraZeneca Hikes on Treatment Results

AstraZeneca (NASDAQ:AZN) climbed Wednesday after sinking 8% on Monday when AstraZeneca announced preliminary results of its phase three lung cancer treatment. The company said data for overall survival was “not mature” and results were not statistically significant, but the trial will continue.

AstraZeneca reported mixed results from a Phase 3 clinical trial for its lung cancer drug datopotamab deruxtecan, or Dato-Dxd, in the treatment of advanced lung cancer.

The British drugmaker said that results from the study showed statistically significant improvement in progression-free survival for patients who took Dato-Dxd versus the chemotherapy docetaxel in the treatment of metastatic non-small cell lung cancer.

The drugmaker added that data for another primary endpoint of the study, overall survival, was not yet "mature."

"An early trend was observed in favor of datopotamab deruxtecan versus docetaxel that did not meet the prespecified threshold for statistical significance at this interim analysis," the drugmaker said.
Shares of AstraZeneca were down 7% in early trading Monday following the news.

AstraZeneca said the Phase 3 trial will continue to as planned in order to assess more mature data on the dual primary endpoint of overall survival. Dato-Dxd is being co-developed with Japan's Daiichi Sankyo.

AZN shares recovered $2.14, or 3.3%, to $67.39.
