Boeing (BA) is to restart deliveries of its commercial aircraft in China by year’s end, according to media reports.
The Reuters News Agency is reporting that Boeing is set to deliver a 787 Dreamliner aircraft to China within days. It would mark to U.S. company’s first sale to China in nearly three years.
There is hope within Boeing that Dreamliner sales will lead to renewed deliveries of its 737 MAX aircraft, which have been halted for nearly five years following several high-profile crashes that led to the MAX aircraft being grounded worldwide.
Juneyao Airlines, a privately-owned Chinese carrier, is scheduled to take possession of a new 787 Dreamliner from Boeing before the end of 2023.
The resumption of 787 Dreamliner deliveries could be a precursor to the restart of 737 MAX deliveries, and the return of normalized trade relations between Boeing and China, say analysts.
For Boeing, deliveries to China are critically important as the company forecasts that China will comprise 20% of the world’s aircraft demand through 2042.
The stock of Boeing has gained 33% in 2023 and currently trades at $260.25 U.S. per share.
