The Ford Motor Company (F) is being forced to recall 112,965 of its F-150 pick-up trucks, according to a news release by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall is due to a rear axle hub bolt that may break on some F-150 trucks. It is not immediately clear how Ford plans to manage the North American-wide recall.
However, the NHTSA said in its notice that Ford needs to issue owner notification letters to impacted owners by the end of January.
The recall of its best-selling F-150 pick-up truck comes months after Ford endured a six-week strike at its U.S. manufacturing sites by the United Auto Workers (UAW) union.
The labour action cost Ford billions of dollars in lost production and saddled the company with an expensive new collective agreement.
Ford’s stock has increased 4% over the last 12 months and currently trades at $12.16 U.S. per share.
