Super Micro Computer (SMCI) is re-joining the monster artificial intelligence rally of 2024. Shares gained 12.4% on Thursday on no news. It benefited from shares of Broadcom (AVGO) and Arista (ANET) rising in the last week.
Broadcom, like Nvidia (NVDA), will split its shares ten-for-one. ANET stock closed at $331.67, up by 6.53%.
Broadcom has over 30 Wall Street analysts who rate the stock a ‘Buy.’
Media Stocks Stumble
Shari Redstone, a controlling shareholder in Paramount (PARA), reportedly ended discussions with bidder Skydance Media. PARA stock closed at $10.35, down by 6.92%. The weak stock hurts Paramount’s negotiating position with Skydance and Sony (SONY). Earlier in the week, the WSJ reported that Edgar Bronfman, who has at least $2 billion in net worth, would consider bidding for Paramount.
Paramount dragged Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) down by 6.66% as shares closed at $7.29. This is a new 52-week low for WBD stock.
Etsy (ETSY), which sells unique goods, fell by 4.95% on Thursday. Markets are dumping retail stocks, as worries mount that the weak consumer economy will hurt their revenue. Watch out for Shopify (SHOP). A decline in small business growth would weaken Shopify’s profitability.
