U.S. telecommunications giant T-Mobile (TMUS) has announced that its chief operating officer (COO), Srinivasan Gopalan, will become the company’s new chief executive officer (CEO).
Gopalan will take over from T-Mobile’s current CEO Mike Sievert on Nov. 1, the company said in a news release.
Sievert has been CEO of T-Mobile since April 2020. He will move to the newly created position of vice chairman and advise on long-term strategy after Nov. 1.
Gopalan has previously held senior leadership positions at Capital One (COF) and Vodafone (VOD).
He also served as CEO of Germany’s Deutsche Telekom (DTEGY), where he is credited with doubling the company's growth rate and scaling its fibre optic business.
Gopalan has served on T-Mobile's board of directors for nearly four years and took on the COO position in March 2025.
T-Mobile is currently the leading wireless internet provider in the U.S. For this year’s second quarter, the company raised its forecast for postpaid customer additions and added more wireless subscribers than Wall Street had expected.
TMUS stock is up 9% this year and trading at $238.17 U.S. per share.
