Electric vehicle maker Tesla (TSLA) is restarting its artificial intelligence (A.I.) supercomputer project in an effort to bolster its self-driving and robotics technologies.
On social media, Tesla Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk said that the company will “restart work on Dojo3.”
Dojo is Tesla’s internal supercomputer used for training A.I. models and to improve the company’s driver-assistance product called “Full Self-Driving.”
Last year Tesla disbanded its Dojo team to focus on making microchips and processors as it tries to compete against companies such as Nvidia (NVDA).
Musk now seems to have had a change of heart and decided that Tesla does need its own in-house supercomputer to help train A.I.
News that Tesla is restarting its A.I. supercomputer project comes as Musk said that the automotive manufacturer has completed work on its newest processor, called the “A15 chip.”
Musk also said on social media that Telsa is poised to become the largest global maker of A.I. microchips and semiconductors.
TSLA stock has gained 3% over the last 12 months to trade at $437.52 U.S. per share.
