Sony’s (SONY) film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has earned $2 billion U.S. at the global box office, making it the company’s highest grossing film ever.
The latest installment in the Spider-Man film franchise sold another $70 million U.S. of tickets at the North American box office over the weekend, growing its domestic haul to $785.8 million U.S.
Internationally, the movie sold another $118.7 million U.S. of tickets, bringing its total ticket sales to $1.24 billion U.S. outside of North America, including $210 million U.S. in China.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now earned $2.02 billion U.S. worldwide since it made its box office debut three weeks ago. It’s Sony’s highest-grossing movie ever.
For Hollywood, the summer box office continues to sizzle. So far in 2026, the global box office has totaled $6.87 billion U.S., or nearly 20% higher than at this point last year.
Since May 1, the summer box office has earned an estimated $4.24 billion U.S., up 23.6% from this point in 2025 and 5.7% higher than summer 2019 before Covid-19 struck.
The best summer box office of all time occurred in 2013, when ticket sales totaled $4.76 billion U.S.
This summer, the box office has been given a lift by other popular films such as “The Odyssey,” “The End of Oak Street,” and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5.”
SONY stock has declined 12% over the past 12 months to trade at $24.29 U.S. per share in New York.
