Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) Utilities has disclosed that it is partnering with Japan’s environment ministry as well as five utilities in the Asian country with a view to reducing carbon emissions in households. This is part of the strategy Japan has adopted in order to meet the Paris Agreement commitments as well as to mitigate against climate change. Japan plans to reduce carbon emissions by 26% by the year 2030.
"It is very rewarding to be able to contribute to energy efficiency around the globe. Japan is another example of the current energy efficiency programs we are running with 87 utilities around the world in order to create a more sustainable planet," Oracle Utilities' general manager and senior vice president, Rodger Smith, said.
Energy efficiency guidance
Under the partnership Oracle Utilities will be used to offer energy efficiency guidance that is personalized to households numbering 300,000 across five territories in Japan. Currently close to 70% of the carbon emissions from Japanese households is attributed to energy use. As part of its goal the environment ministry in Japan intends to reach its carbon-emissions reduction targets by ensuring that greenhouse gas emissions from the residential sector falls by 40%.
The five utilities that Oracle Utilities will cooperate with include Hokkaido Gas, Ltd., Okinawa Electric Power, Tohoku Electric Power, Kansai Electric Power, and Hokuriku Electric Power. Home energy reports will be delivered to residents who are located in each of the utility’s territory using the cloud service platform of Oracle Utilities. Each utility is expected to deliver the reports to about 60,000 residents. In total about 300,000 residents will be provided with the reports by the five utilities.
Personalized insights
The reports will contain personalized insights which are intended to increase the levels of energy efficiency awareness. Consumers will also be given tips which will assist them in reducing waste where possible and practical. On Monday shares of Oracle Corporation edged up by 0.16% to close the day at $49.40.
