The Disney and Marvel movie Avengers: Infinity War broke both the domestic opening weekend box office record and worldwide opening record with a massive $250 million domestically (U.S. and Canada) and $630 million globally.
In the Avengers wake, the majority of other films in wide release fell sharply over the weekend, although fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe release Black Panther improved its position from eighth place last weekend to a spot in this weekend's top five.
Infinity War's opening weekend beat the previous record of $247.9 million set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens back in December 2015 by just over $2 million. The film accounted for 84.4% of the domestic top twelve movies in release this past weekend. Internationally, Avengers: Infinity War delivered a monstrous $380 million from approximately 72% of the international marketplace. Altogether, Infinity War's global debut reached $630 million, shattering the previous record of $541.9 million set by Fate of the Furious.
Finishing in second place was Paramount's A Quiet Place, serving as the only other film over the weekend to post double digit revenue in the face of Avengers: Infinity War. The film brought in an estimated $10.65 million for a cumulative total of just under $150 million domestically. TX's I Feel Pretty landed in third spot, delivering an estimated $8.1 million in ticket receipts; in fourth place was Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema`s Rampage, which dropped a hefty 65% for an estimated $7.1 million. Rounding out the top five was Disney and Marvel's Black Panther, which delivered an estimated $4.38 million for a domestic total that now stands at $688 million.
