For those who saw "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" so many years ago, the scene where Princess Leah appears as a hologram to pass on a message to Luke Skywalker was an epic moment for the speculation of future communications. That day may have come a step closer to a reality yesterday.
Oklahoma-based 3DIcon Corporation (OTCBB:TDCP) announced yesterday that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted U.S. Patent 7,858,913 for CSpace® to the University of Oklahoma through its Sponsored Research Agreement with 3DIcon.
3DIcon signed the Agreement with OU four years ago to develop the technology and has provided the team at OU with over $2 million in research funding. CSpace® is a volumetric, three-dimension projection and display technology that the University and TDCP have been working on for several years as its possibilities for commercial applications are virtually endless if brought to market.
Per the agreement, the University of Oklahoma owns the patent for CSpace® and 3DIcon owns the exclusive worldwide marketing rights to the technology.
The technology takes the Princess Leah scene to the 21st century and beyond as it is designed to produce high-resolution full-color, true 3D images without any special viewing aids.
The technology expands the capabilities of any current display technology to the next level as it has the capacity to produce translucent images which facilitate the viewing of the inside of images, such as human organs, ocean or terrain features, luggage, cargo containers or troop carriers.
While typical mechanical swept-volume displays can only produce a maximum resolution of 100 million voxels, CSpace® has the ability to generate 3D images with resolution up to 800 million voxels.
When completed, 3DIcon intends to tap into a multitude of potential markets with this technology including the medical industry where CSpace® can be used for CT scans, MRI’s and dental applications, to name a few, as well other industries including baggage and cargo scanning, military applications, communications, entertainment, air traffic control, earth science research and even space transportation.
Technically speaking, the TDCP chart has made a strong move over the last couple weeks. With a heavy resistance being set through the area of $0.005 to $0.006, the volume spike and buying pressure eight trading days ago shot the price rapidly through the resistance up to touch a high of $0.028.
A standard pullback has happened with the pps holding the 10-day moving average and another climb above $0.015 happened yesterday with the news of the patent hitting the wire that morning. Both technical and fundamental traders appear to be turning their attention to this little company with a big technology.
