Helen of Troy hikes on Q2 results

Helen of Troy Limited (NASDAQ: HELE) rose Tuesday after the company reported upbeat results for its second quarter and raised its FY19 guidance.

The El Paso-based designer, developer and worldwide marketer of consumer brand-name housewares, health and home and beauty products, today reported that, following the divestiture of Healthy Directions on December 20, 2017, it no longer consolidates the Nutritional Supplements segment’s operating results. That former segment’s operating results are included in the Company’s financial statements and classified as discontinued operations for all periods presented.

GAAP operating income of $50.7 million, or 12.9% of net sales, which includes $0.9 million in restructuring charges, compared to $39.7 million, or 11.5% of net sales for the same period last year, which included a $3.6 million charge related to the bankruptcy of Toys "R" Us ("TRU")

GAAP diluted EPS from continuing operations of $1.66, which includes $0.03 per share of restructuring charges, compared to $1.26 for the same period last year, which included a $0.12 per share charge related to the TRU bankruptcy

CEO Julien R. Mininberg, stated: “Our business generated excellent results in the second quarter as we continued to benefit from the strategic choices we made as part of our transformation plan. These choices included disciplined investments in our Leadership Brands, our infrastructure and our people, which contributed to a net sales increase of 14.1% and an increase in adjusted diluted EPS from continuing operations of 20.0%.

Shares in HELE spiked $3.99, or 3.3%, to $121.69
