The movie Avengers: Endgame destroyed the weekend box office, shattering numerous records on its way to a historic haul of $1.2 billion in global ticket sales.
Avengers Endgame delivered an estimated $350 million in domestic box office receipts for the U.S. and Canada over the course of its first three days, and $1.2 billion at the global box office in just its first five days.
Avengers Endgame's opening weekend is $93 million larger than the previous record set by Avengers: Infinity War last year (2018), which grossed $257.69 million. After critics were overwhelmingly in support of the film heading into the weekend, the film's opening weekend crowd gave it an "A+" CinemaScore. The weekend audience was 57% male and 61% was 25 years of age or older.
Avengers Endgame is on pace to deliver a domestic performance close to $1 billion, which would put it on course to eclipse the current record domestic gross of $936.6 million set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015.
The film is the fastest to ever top $1 billion globally, doing so after just five days, and it already ranks as the 18th largest worldwide release ever and the sixth largest worldwide release in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Avengers: Endgame's $859 million international opening is over $400 million more than the previous record set by The Fate of the Furious and the $1.2 billion in global ticket sales is nearly double the previous record of $640.5 million set by Avengers: Infinity War.
Avengers: Endgame also delivered the number one opening day ($107.8 million) in China as well as the largest five-day opening weekend ever in that country at $330.5 million. In addition, the film delivered the largest industry openings in 44 international markets, including Australia ($30.8 million), Korea ($47.4 million), Brazil ($26 million), Mexico ($33.1 million), France ($24.2 million), Italy ($19 million), Spain ($13.3 million) and the United Kingdom ($53.8 million).
The movie is presented by Marvel, which is under the Disney(NYSE:DIS) banner. Disney stock began Monday up four cents to $139.96.
