Shopify To Open First Retail Location In Los Angeles Later This Year

Ottawa-based e-commerce company Shopify Inc. (TSX: SHOP) has announced that it will open its first bricks-and-mortar store location in downtown Los Angeles, California.

The Canadian company said in a news release that it chose L.A. for a retail location because the area is home to a large number of Shopify merchants who can benefit from the services and community that the space will provide.

Shopify’s store will open later this year in a historic L.A. shopping district populated with stores, restaurants and offices. Shopify's Chief Operating Officer, Harley Finkelstein, previously said that the company may host events at the space or open it to merchants to sell their products for a few days at a time.

Founded in 2004, Shopify runs a proprietary e-commerce platform for online stores and retail point-of-sale systems. The company has more than 600,000 merchants using its platform and gross merchandise volume of more than $55 billion U.S.
