This month, YouTube turns six, and the site synonymous with web video has crossed some impressive milestones. The site currently boasts a whopping three million views per day, which according to the company, equates to "nearly half the world's population watching a YouTube video each day."
In November, YouTube found that users were uploading 35 hours of video every every minute. The numbers today? According to YouTube's blog, more than 48 hours of video every minute, an astounding 37% increase over just six months ago. Now that the company is pushing the bounds of its own identity with original content and video rentals, we can only expect that number to shoot up even further.
When it comes to explaining the winning formula behind the web's foremost hub of user-made video, the company's own blog puts it best: "YouTube is successful because it's a reflection of you and your world." And while that reflection might sometimes be a bit weird, it never ceases to be interesting.
