Tesla Shares Rise 6% Following Leak Of Company Emails

Shares of electric car manufacturer Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) rose Thursday after several emails from the company leaked online.

The leaked emails were from Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk, who said in the messages that he saw "a shot" at delivering 100,000 cars this quarter. Other emails concerned a new software update for watching movies and playing games in Tesla cars.

Shares of Tesla closed 6% higher on Thursday following the email leak. The electric-car maker is expected to provide the details of its quarterly vehicle deliveries next week. Musk said in the emails that the focus is to get Tesla cars into the hands of customers who can take delivery by the end of September.

The new version of software for its electric cars will be launched this week and will have support for streaming media, including Spotify, TuneIn and Slacker while parked and connected to WiFi. The update will be released to the cars remotely through an over-the-air update similar to software updates on smartphones.

No explanation has been provided by Tesla for how or why the emails were leaked outside the company.
