BlackBerry Posts $495 Million Q4 Loss

Canadian technology firm BlackBerry (BB) has reported a net loss of $495 million U.S. for its fiscal fourth quarter, down substantially from a profit of $144 million U.S. a year earlier.

The Waterloo, Ontario-based company, which reports its financial results in U.S. dollars, said its Q4 earnings per share (EPS) amounted to a negative -$0.85 U.S., down from a -$0.03 U.S. loss a year earlier.

The company attributed its loss to a $476 million U.S. non-cash impairment charge that affected its operating income in the quarter.

Revenues in the fiscal fourth quarter that ended on February 28 of this year were $151 million U.S., down 18% from $185 million U.S. a year earlier.

For the full financial year, BlackBerry posted a loss of $734 million U.S., down from a $12 million U.S. profit a year earlier.

BlackBerry’s stock has declined 42% over the last 12 months to trade at $5.42 per share.
