SpaceX, the privately held satellite company led by Elon Musk, plans to bring satellite phone service to Canada.
Satellite phone service will provide emergency services to northern and remote areas of Canada that aren’t covered by conventional wireless and cell phone networks.
SpaceX plans to use its Starlink low-earth orbit satellites and start by providing text service via satellite phones in Canada before eventually adding voice and data coverage.
A launch date for the new satellite phone service in Canada has not been provided.
SpaceX, which is also rolling out satellite phone service in remote areas of the U.S., is partnering with Rogers Communications (RCI) in Canada.
