Amazon To Open Fulfillment Centre In Southern Ontario, Hire 1,000 Workers

E-commerce company Amazon (AMZN) plans to open a new fulfilment centre south of London, Ontario and hire 1,000 full-time employees to staff it.

The Seattle-based company said the new fulfilment centre will be in Southwold, Ontario, and that it plans to have it operational in October of this year.

The fulfillment centre, to be called “YXU1,” will see employees work alongside robots to pick, pack and ship up to 750,000 items a day to Canadian destinations.

Amazon added that it plans to ramp-up hiring for the fulfillment centre in September of this year.

People who work at the new fulfillment centre will receive competitive wages as well as medical, vision, and dental coverage, and a group RRSP, according to Amazon.

Amazon’s stock has increased 49% this year to trade at $128.21 U.S. per share. The company is scheduled to report its second-quarter financial results after markets close today (August 3).
