IMF Warns A.I. To Impact 40% Of Jobs Worldwide

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is warning that nearly 40% of all jobs around the world are vulnerable to disruption by artificial intelligence (A.I.).

The Washington, D.C.-based institution has assessed the potential impact of A.I. on the global labour market and concluded that the technology is likely to worsen inequality.

The IMF expects that as many as 60% of jobs could be impacted by A.I. in high-income developed nations.

Disruption from A.I. is estimated to impact 40% of jobs in emerging nations and 26% in low-income, developing countries.

The new report from the IMF also states that A.I. is likely to worsen income and wealth inequality, which could lead to further polarization and social tensions around the world.

U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs (GS) previously warned that A.I. could impact as many as 300 million jobs worldwide in coming years.

The IMF report has been issued as business and political leaders gather at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Leading up to the meeting in Davos, the IMF is urging policymakers to tackle what it sees as “troubling trends” with generative A.I. technologies.
