N.B. Police warn of banking scam

Police in New Brunswick are warning people about a telephone scam involving callers who say they're with Microsoft or Windows.

Police say they have received complaints from residents of St. George, Blacks Harbour and the surrounding area.

Officers say the would-be scammers may tell residents their computer has a virus and needs to be updated, then ask for remote access to the computer and request payment by asking for banking or credit card information.

This could also lead to access to personal information on the computer and viruses being added to the computer.

A police spokesman says people should never provide personal or financial information over the phone or through e-mail.
