Microsoft To Invest $7.5 Billion In Canada

U.S. technology giant Microsoft (MSFT) says that it plans to invest $7.5 billion ($5.42 billion U.S.) in Canada over the next two years.

The money will be spent on expanding Microsoft’s cloud computing and artificial intelligence (A.I.) infrastructure across the country.

New capacity under the investment will start to come online in the second half of 2026.

Microsoft also plans to grow its Azure cloud computing offering in Canada, targeting domestic businesses and government clients.

Much of the new money being spent in Canada will go towards establishing a “Threat Intelligence Hub” that focuses on cybersecurity protection and A.I. security research.

Microsoft says it will work with the Canadian government and lawmakers to track threat actors and organized crime that’s operating in the country.

Microsoft, which is headquartered in Seattle near the Canadian border, already has a large presence in Canada with nearly 5,500 employees in 11 cities.

The company noted in a news release that its total investment in Canada will amount to $19 billion between 2023 and 2027.

MSFT stock has risen 17% this year to trade at $491.02 U.S. per share.
