Samsung Announces $80 Billion In Shareholder Returns

South Korean technology giant Samsung (SSNLF) has announced plans to return up to $80 billion U.S. to shareholders in the form of dividend payments and stock buybacks.

The electronics maker announced that it expects shareholder returns to total as much as 110 trillion won ($79.52 billion U.S.) this year.

In a statement, Samsung said that its new shareholder return program is “the largest ever by a Korean company.”

Samsung’s announcement that it is ramping up shareholder returns comes days after South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix (SKHY) announced a $29 billion U.S. share repurchase program.

SK Hynix, which makes memory chips and processors, said it is trying to boost its share price, which it views as undervalued at current levels.

Samsung said it will decide the size and details of the shareholder returns at a board meeting in January 2027.

However, the company said the returns will involve a combination of cash dividends and stock buybacks.

Samsung has long maintained a shareholder return program. Since 2024, the company has returned 50% of its free cash flow to stockholders and paid $710 million U.S. in annual dividends.

Samsung’s U.S. shares, which trade on the over-the-counter market, have risen 60% in the past 12 months to trade at $65.21 U.S. per share.
