There is growing speculation that technology giant Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) will launch a new version of its Macbook Pro in late 2016. According to a report in the International Business Times, the new laptop could come without any connectors except USB-C ports.
The International Business Times report is based on leaked images, which were obtained by Cult of Mac. The images suggest that the new Macbook Pro will have an aluminum chassis. The images also show a space at the top of the keyboard. This space could be utilized for an OLED panel. In a research note to clients last week, Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst at KGI Securities, said that new version of the Macbook Pro could be used by Apple to enable its Touch D fingerprint sensor to the Macbook range.
The images further show that the new Macbook Pro will have four USB ports. According to the International Business Times report, these ports are likely to USB Type C. This means that Apple’s new laptop will exclude the MagSafe connector, SD card slot, HDMI connector and Thunderbolt ports. While the size and weight of the latest version of the Macbook cannot be determined from the images, KGI Securities’ Kuo believes that the new design will be thinner or lighter than the current model.
