International transactions in securities (Dec.) Foreign investors added $8.7 billion of Canadian securities to their holdings in November. The fifth straight month of foreign investment in these instruments was largely composed of corporate securities. Meanwhile, Canadian investors acquired $6.6 billion of foreign securities, all bonds.
MLS sales (Dec.) The number of home sales processed through the MLS Systems of Canadian Real Estate Boards and Associations and other co-operative listing systems was down 1.8% on a month-over-month basis in December 2013, marking the third straight monthly decline.

The jeweler announced that comparable store sales increased 2% at constant exchange rates, or 0.7% on a U.S. dollar reported basis, for the last two months of calendar 2013. Perhaps that will translate into stronger earnings for January and the first quarter of 2014.

Retail trade (Dec.) Retail sales rose 0.6% in November to $41.0 billion, the fourth increase in five months.
Consumer Price Index (Jan.) The agency tells us consumer prices rose 1.2% in the 12 months to December, following a 0.9% increase in November. On a seasonally-adjusted monthly basis, CPI increased 0.2% in December, matching the rise in November.
